Motihari/ Dept of Social Work MGCUB organized a Guest lecture on International Day for Elimination of Violence on 25th Nov 2019. Eminent speakers including Dr Heena Chandra- Gynaecologist, Dr Deepti- HOD Pol Sc Patna University apart from Hon’ble HOD social work Dr Vijay Sharma and Hon’ble Dean Dr Rajeev Kumar were present. The program was moderated by Asst Prof Dr Rashmita Roy.
The program has been kicked off with Sanskrit invocation from Hon’ble Dr Vijay Sharma who underlined how Veda upholds respectable position for women in society.
Another bold speech from Dr Heena sent chill down the spine. Dr Heena shared her professional anecdotes about grim issue like foeticide and how she campaigns against foeticide- a practice deeply entrenched in the society of Bihar.
Another speaker- Dr Deepti took the momentum to higher level when she discussed the gender specific social practices discursively present in the patriarchal society and how our negative, maleovalent attitudes towards women have created a systemic barriers for them.
She said, Depite various statuary laws and law enforcing agents for legal action and empowerment, our ostrich like attitude is responsible for the menace against women
Another speech from Dr. Sweta was a real eye opener towards social construct of genderization
The students, scholars felt the gravity of the crisis and were left with guilt conscious for not doing enough to full fill the gap. Our patriarchal society ascribes gender based on assemblage of several social , economic factors and stigmatise those persons who fail to conform to the archaic social standard.
Fortitously, the decriminalization of Art 377 against LGBTQ has gone a long way in stopping violence against women.
Dean Dr. Rajeev too laid stressed on the need to bring new social orders and how gender education at and research play huge role in sensitization of society.
last but not least, Dr. Anupam in described about an NGOs comprising men that pro actively work to stop violence against women. Although such works appear to be a silver lining in the darkness, we cannot afford to b complacent anymore towards violence against women.
He said, Our changing lifestyle and social dynamics calls for serious contemplation and proactive approach at every level. The ghastly Nirbhaya issue is a clarion call that violence against women should not have any acceptance in aspiring  Indian society of 21st century. For Nirbhaya still lives in us. “Nirbhaya” can’t die among us.
